Privacy policy

The short version: we only ask for what we need to quote and build your part, we don't sell it or use it for ads, and the only analytics on this site is an anonymous visit counter that uses no cookies and doesn't follow you around the web. The rest of this page is the detail behind that.
Who we are
Crackbotics is an independent, unincorporated student-run business based in San Diego, California — not a registered company. This policy covers this website and the quote form on it. Questions about it go to crackboticssandiego@gmail.com.
What we collect
We collect information in exactly one place: the "Get a quote" form. That's:
- Your name and email — required, so we can reply.
- Team number — optional, helps us route parts for events.
- Part details — type, material, size, quantity, and the options you pick, so we can price and make it.
- A design file — required. A DXF, STEP, STL or 3MF (or a PDF or ZIP for anything else) you upload so we can quote and cut or print the part. DXF, STL and 3MF files are measured in your own browser to price the job; the file itself only leaves your computer when you submit the form. It's then stored in our file storage on Vercel (the company that hosts this site) under a long, unguessable link, and that link is what we receive by email. Anyone with the exact link could open the file, so we don't share it, and we'll delete it on request.
- A delivery address — only if you choose local delivery instead of pickup. See the section on address lookups below.
- Anything you write in the details field.
We don't have user accounts, we don't collect payment details on the site (payment is arranged by email once a quote is agreed), and we don't ask for anything beyond what's in that form.
Why we collect it
Only to respond to your request and, if you go ahead, to make the part and get it to you. Submitting the form is you asking us to use your information for that. We don't use it to build a marketing list, and we don't message you about anything other than the request you sent.
Who it's shared with
The form is processed by FormSubmit, a third-party form backend that emails us your submission, including the link to your design file. Your design file itself is stored with Vercel, which hosts this site, along with an encrypted copy of your request in our private order log, which only we can open. Vercel also provides our anonymous visit counts (see Analytics). Each company's handling of that data is covered by its own policies, published on its site. We don't share, sell, or rent your information to anyone else, and we don't run ads.
Delivery address lookups
If you pick local delivery and start typing an address into the quote form, your browser sends what you've typed so far to Nominatim (run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation) as you type, to show matching address suggestions to pick from. That request goes straight from your browser to Nominatim, covered by the OpenStreetMap Foundation's privacy policy — we never see it. Local delivery is a flat $15.99 regardless of distance, so nothing about the address affects the price; all we keep is the address you submit with the form. When we deliver, we put the address into maps services (Google Maps and OpenStreetMap) to find it on a map and plan the drive.
It only happens if you choose local delivery and type in the address field. Pickup orders never trigger a lookup and don't ask for an address at all.
Fonts and other third-party requests
This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts
(fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which
means your browser makes a request to Google's servers to fetch them, subject
to Google's
privacy policy. The "Check out our CAD release" link on the About page
takes you to a public document on Onshape's site — that's an outbound link,
not something embedded in this page, and visiting it is covered by
Onshape's
privacy policy, not ours.
The page also loads two code libraries from Cloudflare's public library host
(cdnjs.cloudflare.com): one draws the 3D file preview and one makes
the downloadable quote PDF. If you pick a STEP or 3MF file, the viewer for that
format is loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net at that moment. These are
ordinary file downloads, the same way any website loads code; your design file
is never sent to them. The site itself is hosted by
Vercel, which, like
any web host, handles the basic request details (such as your IP address)
needed to deliver the pages to you.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they look at. For each page view it records the page, the site that linked you here (if any), your rough location (country or region), and your device type, operating system and browser.
It doesn't use cookies or store anything on your device, and it doesn't identify you: visits are grouped by a scrambled code made from the request, which Vercel throws away after 24 hours, so it can't follow you from day to day or across other websites. When you send the quote form, it also counts a view of our "request sent" page — that tells us how many requests came in, not what was in them.
We don't run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any advertising script on this site.
How long we keep it
We keep quote-request information, including your design file, for as long as it takes to complete your order, plus a limited time after (up to about a year) in case you follow up or need a repeat part. If you'd like it deleted sooner, email us and we will.
Your choices
Email crackboticssandiego@gmail.com any time to ask what we have on file for you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. We don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of there. This site does not respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals, because our analytics only counts anonymous visits and doesn't track anyone across sites or over time.
Children's privacy
This site isn't directed at children under 13. If you're under 13, please have a parent, guardian, or team mentor submit the form on your behalf.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
